Hands-On Healing for Pain Relief and Functional Recovery

Manual Therapy

At STL Pain & Physical Therapy Center, our Manual Therapy techniques provide a gentle, effective, and highly targeted approach to pain relief and movement restoration. Unlike generalized treatments, manual therapy uses hands-on techniques to assess and treat muscle, joint, and soft tissue dysfunctions — promoting faster healing and long-term results.

Gentle, controlled movements applied to spinal or peripheral joints to restore normal motion, reduce stiffness, and relieve pain. This technique helps improve function and can ease symptoms related to arthritis, spinal conditions, or injuries.

Targeted pressure and manipulation applied to tight, painful knots (trigger points) in muscles to relieve muscle spasms, reduce pain, and improve blood flow. This therapy is highly effective for conditions like myofascial pain syndrome and muscle Ɵghtness.

Skilled hand techniques used to relax tight muscles, break down scar tissue, and enhance tissue elasticity. Therapeutic massage promotes circulation, reduces swelling, and accelerates healing in injured soft tissues.

A gentle, sustained pressure technique aimed at releasing restrictions in the connective tissue (fascia) surrounding muscles and organs. Myofascial release improves tissue flexibility, reduces pain, and restores normal movement patterns.

What is Manual Therapy?

Manual therapy is a skilled, hands-on technique provided by licensed physical therapists to mobilize joints, reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore proper movement patterns. It’s often used as a foundational component of your physical therapy plan.

Whether you’re recovering from an injury, surgery, or struggling with chronic pain, manual therapy helps your body return to its natural balance and function.

Dr. Hassan Jafri, PT, DPT, and our expert team are trained in evidence-based manual therapy techniques that produce real, lasting results. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all care. Your treatment is fully personalized after a thorough evaluation, and we walk you through each step of your journey.

Our Manual Therapy Techniques Include:

Spine & Joint Mobilization
Gentle movements applied to stiff or painful joints to restore optimal range of motion and alignment.

Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy
Focused pressure on sensitive “knots” in muscles to relieve referred pain, tension, and dysfunction.

Soft Tissue Mobilization & Therapeutic Massage
Hands-on massage techniques to reduce swelling, increase circulation, and ease muscle restrictions.

Myofascial Release
A stretching and pressure technique targeting fascia—the connective tissue surrounding muscles—to improve mobility and decrease pain.

Kinesiotaping
Elastic therapeutic taping technique that supports joints and muscles without restricting movement, often used post-treatment for continued support.
